When it opens, Vaugirard Solidarités will offer shared accommodation in the former Visitation monastery in the sixth arrondissement of Paris. The large-scale project aims to create an oasis of solidarity in the heart of the city.

Giving vulnerable people a place

At one point or another in their lives, nearly half the people in France face circumstances that can put them in a vulnerable situation. Vulnerability isolates them in a society that demands efficiency. Giving the most fragile people a place in society is a major challenge.

The Simon de Cyrène, Association pour l'Amitié and La Maison de Marthe et Marie are working to meet it. Vaugirard Solidarité brings them together. The project provides shared living spaces based on human relationships.

An exemplar of shared housing in Paris

One goal drives all three associations: giving vulnerable people a place in society. They offer shared housing where everybody has a private room and co-manages common spaces.

Open to the neighborhood, the homes foster mutually enriching interaction between housemates and local residents. They are located in exceptional locations in buildings allocated by the Diocese of Paris.

The foundation’s support

The Bettencourt Schueller Foundation backs Vaugirard Solidarité in this large-scale project by funding the construction and renovation of living spaces. It shares the three associations’ values, which are based on the frail and able-bodied living together.
