Espérance Banlieues aims to help each child succeed, become responsible and thrive in French society. In 2012, Eric Mestrallet, a father and businessman, created the association, which aims to promote access to quality education for all suburban children.

Reducing educational inequality in priority neighborhoods

Academic success is paramount in suburban schools. Academic achievement depends on strengthening the basics, such as mathematics and French. The small class size of 15 students fosters a climate of confidence. In the Espérance Banlieues model, children learn to live together and look after each other. They activate social skills that will serve them throughout their lives.

For academic, educational and integrative success

With input from parents, Espérance Banlieues nurtures every aspect of a child’s growth. It teaches them the rules of living in society and the value of work. This educational project also lets parents play their role as primary educators. Through trust, it leads them to work closely with the school.

Accompanying change on the scale of Espérance Banlieues

The Bettencourt Schueller Foundation has backed Espérance Banlieues since 2014. Its goal is to help young people gain self-confidence, learn and thrive in society. It contributed to the experimentation at the first school in Montfermeil. In 2017, it helped the "Réseau Espérance Banlieues" open 20 local schools.
