By awarding the 2016 Liliane Bettencourt Intelligence of the Hand - "Parcours" Prize to the "Dentelle de Calais-Caudry®" label, the foundation wanted to encourage an initiative that actively contributes to the economic influence of a region, the promotion of outstanding French craftsmanship worldwide and the transmission of rare crafts.

The project is mainly the story of a connection between two northern French cities that produce exceptional lace and have decided to team up to promote their know-how. Since 2015, the "Dentelle de Calais-Caudry®" label has attested to the closer ties between the two cities, which revitalize an adventure that began over 200 years ago. The creation of the new label goes hand-in-hand with the shared desire to promote an exceptional craft involving around 20 highly skilled trades.

The foundation's "Parcours" award recognizes 11 companies employing nearly 1,300 people that have joined forces to promote their expertise. Their lace has been acclaimed by haute-couture houses and young designers alike, thrusting a traditional craft into the fields of contemporary creation. This is a way to anchor lace production in the 21st century, stimulate interest in this field and save jobs in an economically hard-hit region.
