In 2012, Christine and Nicolas Bard founded MAKE ICI, a unique network of collaborative and mutually supportive factories for artisans that received the 2020 Liliane Bettencourt pour l'Intelligence de la Main - Parcours Prize. Recognizing a collective and solidarity initiative

A rehabilitated 1800m2 former factory in the heart of old Montreuil hosts craftsmen, designers, architects and digital manufacturing professionals. About a hundred entrepreneurs pay a monthly subscription fee to belong to an ecosystem whose philosophy is summed up by its motto: "All independent, all interdependent". They have access to private and collective workshops, traditional and digital machines and storage and assembly areas. Everyone benefits from pooling their resources and skills.

MAKE ICI Montreuil is not just a production space. It is a powerfully inspiring place of daily discussions and the transmission of techniques based on the idea that pooling knowledge lifts everybody’s boat. To develop skills, MAKE ICI Montreuil offers tailor-made courses given in part by residents to their peers, to young people seeking a profession and to workers being retrained.

“It is a very concrete way to create a pool of artisans throughout the area. The concept is somewhat similar to the idea of co-working, but goes further by fostering the exchange of know-how. MAKE ICI Montreuil helps artisans grow together.”
